Tree House Adventure Climb up through the hollow tree into the largest indoor treehouse in the neighborhood!!! Curl up and read a book, or explore the network of tubes - even go outside the walls of the building to watch people on the sidewalks of the city. Spy on your friends on the second floor using the periscope. Exit the treehouse via one of the two slides, or take the skycrawl across to the music mezzanine. Adults can access the treehouse through a spiral staircase (but we won't tell them if you don't). Sky Crawl Work your way from the Treehouse to the Mezzanine and back through the rope mesh skycrawl high above the first floor exhibit area. If there is a longer skycrawl in the United States, we haven't found it (at least not a blue one anyway). This (like all the museum activities) is 'grown up safe' so parents can enjoy it too!!!
Giant Pinscreen Make a first impression over and over again on our five foot tall pin screen containing more than 72,365 movable pins (we lost count and weren't about to start over!!).
Magnet Table The giant horseshoe magnet on the first floor has magnetic tables at both poles. Explore the mysteries of magnetic forces or build a magnetic sculpture using common steel objects.
Radiometer Use your fun card to activate this simple solar power plant. Observe how the level of energy varies depending on its distance from the source. Rachel's Favorite We're guessing even the greatest NBA star never scored a two pointer using a bicycle, roller skate, swimming pool, oars, a couple of hockey sticks and a cowbell. This exhibit shows what you can accomplish with everyday household items if you put your mind to it, and even illustrates some simple machine concepts to boot. Inspired by a local family's visit to an out of state children's museum, this exhibit holds a special place in our hearts here at Above and Beyond as it fulfills the dream - and honors the memory - of Rachel Jorgensen (1985-1998). Donated by the Jorgensen family, the exhibit was first dedicated in 2000. During the winter of 2008/2009, financial support from generous donors made it possible for the museum to have the exhibit re-engineered and reconstructed - insuring that Rachel's vision for the museum will live on and will be enjoyed by visitors for years to come.
Whompamaphone Whom-pa-ma-WHAT? That's right, a whompamaphone. Play your favorite tune on this PVC pipe organ. learn how the length of the pipes affect their pitch. The longest pipe (for the lowest note) is over 15 feet long - yet the exhibit resides in our music mezzanine which has a 6-1/2 foot ceiling.
Sounds Like Fun
Our Music Room is currently being updated. Watch for a new electronic keyboard and a karaoke machine coming during the fall/winter of 2009.
CyberSpace Play interactive, educational computer games in our 'Cyber Space' area. Located at the top of the stairs on the second floor. In the Center Ring. . .
The centerpiece of the museum's second floor is the Siegl Miniature Circus. Local artist and circus enthusiast Jim Siegl spent nearly 30,000 hours creating this one of a kind masterpiece. Each character is hand carved and hand painted with amazing detail. Work your way around the colorful circus wagon display case from the three-ring big top to the midway, using your 'fun card' to activate the characters and rides, bringing the exhibit to life. Kids Klinic Cure what ails you in our kid-sized Doctor's office. Grab a stethescope, review X-rays and record your health info-or just take a quick nap on the comfortable exam table. Be a patient or dress the part as a Doctor or Nurse. Rainforest Toddler Room
