Makerspaces

Step into the Wonder Workshop, a hands-on maker space where children explore, experiment, and create! Our Maker Spaces invite kids to dive into art-making, science experiments, and tinkering with loose parts- sparking curiosity, imagination, and problem-solving.

Museum educators guide children through a mix of structured projects and open-ended play, letting each child follow their interests while developing new skills. Whether designing miniature worlds, building with recycled materials, or experimenting with natural elements, young inventors, artists, and scientists bring their ideas to life!

Maker Spaces are included with museum admission and welcome children of all ages and abilities. Registration is not required- drop in anytime!

Upcoming Maker Spaces

  • March 13th – Women in Weather Lab

    10:00-11:00 am

Meet the brilliant women who study our skies! In this hands-on science lab, young meteorologists will experiment with clouds, color, and electricity while learning about real women who changed the way we understand weather.

Create a rain cloud in a jar, build a walking rainbow, and spark static lightning as we explore how storms form and why weather matters. Through playful experimentation and powerful role models, children will discover that science isn’t just something you learn—it’s something you can become.

  • March 20th- Spring Garden Art Lab

    10:00-11:00 am

Celebrate the first signs of spring in this hands-on, collaborative art project! Children will work together on a large paper canvas, using paint, bubble wrap, and natural tools like pine cones, twigs, and leaves to create a whimsical early spring garden. There’s no right or wrong way to paint!  This playful exploration encourages creativity, teamwork, and a joyful connection with nature, even while the chill of winter lingers outside.

  • March 27th- Rainbow Suncatchers Art Lab

    10:00-11:00 am

Children will create their own sparkling rainbow suncatchers, choosing from materials like tissue paper, beads, or other colorful, translucent elements. Each child can design their suncatcher with their own colors and patterns, making a unique, light-catching creation. This project encourages creativity and exploration of color, texture, and light. By the end, everyone will have a bright, cheerful rainbow to take home and display.
